It's not unusual for a longer work to become episodic and while they are still fun, some of the uniqueness of the story starts to fall off.Pulp Fiction Book Storehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11111408562837583242noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008217764991774516.post-25926862685091196762016-08-31T21:18:47.231-04:002016-08-31T21:18:47.231-04:00Very cool! I need to find my copy of the Dickson.

And...I need to go read my just arrived copy of Bakker's The Great Ordeal. It's in the stack of anthologies by my reading chair. The only things I don't have are the Weird Tales and the Astounding.

I've always loved short fiction, and as a general rule tend to prefer it to novels, at least the doorstopper kind. In part this is due to the library at my 7th grade school having a large number of anthologies edited by Robert Silverberg. These contained many of the stories that are now considered classics of the field.

Add in the Del Rey Best of series, which was just wrapping up and still widely available, and the Asimov edited Great SF series, which was just getting started, and I was hooked. I've been meaning to give the Great SF another read through.

Anyway, I completely agree with you that some ideas can only be handled well at shorter lengths and aren't enough to sustain a novel.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go dive into the new issue of Weirdbook.Adventuresfantastichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16907562789681407416noreply@blogger.com
