I felt Gary Oldman did well with Smile...I liked it. I felt Gary Oldman did well with Smiley, given that had he played it as a Guinness clone he'd have been put on a blacklist with Orlando Bloom and the ginger kid from Harry Potter, he steered close, but distant enough to avoid those august toes... There is no substitute. Is there?; the book stands above all and the TV version is hot on its heels for sheer atmosphere and glued-to-the-screen performances.
